How to Wear Your Harness Correctly:

Use the Right Gear

First things first, you want to make sure you have the right gear for your team. If you are able to, have a discussion with your crew to see what their preferences are. Some people prefer the simple harness, while others prefer the more padded harnesses.

If your team is comfortable with their harness, they are more likely to wear it properly.

Inspect Your Harness

Before putting your PPE on, you should always inspect it to ensure there are no defects that could cause injury or death. This could include fraying, rips, broken buckles, etc.

Correctly Wearing the Gear

  • When putting the harness on, make sure there are no twists in the straps
  • Make sure to keep straps where they are supposed to be, not too high, not too low.
  • Not only will wearing the harness the right way keep you safer, but it is actually more comfortable.

Train Your Team on the Gear

Training is the most important step of all. The above tips are useless unless your team knows how to use the gear. Start with an initial training and follow up with tailgate safety talks before you step on the job as well as ongoing refresher training.
